“Limestone (displayed by the cast discs) is one of the oldest and most plentiful substances on earth, dating back to the Precambrian era over 540 million years ago. Wood (displayed by the lathe-turned rounds) has been a primary material of use throughout known human history. Steel (displayed by the MIG welded frame) is a physical representation of modern industrial advancement. We take substances from the earth and process them into major building blocks of the modern world. This piece is a visual representation of Shanti in Hinduism: ecological, social, and spiritual peace. It displays a convergence of distinct earthly elements that evoke a sense of spiritual balance and harmony.”

“This painting was inspired by the journal of Hannah Hurnard, the author of Hinds Feet on High Places. She reflected on the self-giving nature of love as she gazed at a waterfall in Sweden. Love is humble as it continually goes lower. It is giving as it unceasingly pours out. Love is a service to others, giving life to all it touches. But love can only make a difference if it comes from a high place of faith and obedience. After reading her reflections, I have prayed this for my own life. That I would embody this kind of selfless love that is unafraid to plunge over the edge. Every time I see a waterfall, I am now reminded of God, His joyful and generous love and am encouraged to love like Him.”

“In 2019, I visited this beautiful island near Munising, Michigan and since then I wanted to express it in my painting. I take inspiration by nature and like to capture its beauty in my art. Being close to nature not only brings me peace but also boost my inspirational drive. I feel amazed by observing complex patterns and various textures that is available to us by nature. Participating in the Art Show is actually me coming out of my shell. As a kid I did many art project for myself, during Covid when I was stuck at home I rediscovered myself. Since then I have been actively taking art workshops whenever I can, self teaching and experimenting with various art styles and mediums. I hope to express my creativity through my art. To give a 3D effect I am using modeling paste along with Acrylic paints.”

“The patterns were digitally drawn and tiled, then sublimated and printed on various items and fabrics. After years of art classes and training in painting and drawing, I have learned that I love to create textiles because it’s so exciting to see my design reproduced on items that can be useful. The process also fits my style of art-making, as much of it involves creating small doodles and then multiplying them, so I don’t lose interest in the process of creating a larger piece‚ a common issue that I ran into often while studying painting. My inspiration to create textiles came at a young age when it seems like everyone at school (including me) had a Vera Bradley lunch box, and I was inspired by the variety of colors and floral patterns. While I still find their patterns beautiful, I try to expand the horizons when it comes to subject matter and make each piece reflect my own style. The most elaborate piece, which includes 40 different world landmarks, is inspired by my love of traveling. While I have not traveled to see the majority of them, I enjoyed learning about the different landmarks and why they are significant to the areas in which they are located. The fruit and veggie pattern was not meant to be a textile at first, but I challenged myself to create a complex pattern out of simple doodles that I had created for another project. I’ve always enjoyed working and experimenting with color, inspired by the work of early Disney artists such as Mary Blair. Sadly, I haven’t had much time to create new artwork this past year, and now that I am no longer in school and in art classes, it‚’s hard to figure out where to get started and how to get motivated to create when there’s no deadlines or grades to work towards. In the process of creating these textiles, I have rediscovered the joy of creating something new and seeing the finished product.
