Feed My Starving Children

Help turn hunger into hope at our next Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) serving event on Tuesday, June 26 from 6:00-7:30pm at the Schaumburg FMSC location. Ages 5 and older can pack food that will be sent to hungry kids around the globe. 

This is a great, fun event to invite your friends and family to join you!

There are also sit-down jobs if standing the whole shift would be difficult. So all abilities welcome!

Palatine Street Fest: August 25-26

Street Fest is Palatine's annual block party festival located at Brockway and Slade streets. Prince of Peace has a booth where children can play a game and we can engage in conversation with families. We also help monitor a bounce house with another nonprofit organization.

Men's Easter Breakfast Team

The famous POP Men’s Easter Breakfast is once again looking for volunteers to help set up, cook, serve, and clean up Easter breakfast. Lenten Dinner Volunteer Team

Prince of Peace is hosting a Lenten Dinner and Discussion of Pastor Mike Newman's book Gospel DNA. We are looking for volunteers to help with the dinner portion of the event. 

Age Requirement: High school students-Adults

Time Commitment: The dinners will take place on February 21, February 28, March 7, March 14, and March 21. Each night has 2 shifts: 5:00-6:30pm and 6:30-8:00pm. You can sign up for whatever dates and shifts work for you!

Thanksgiving Eve Pie Team

Share your gift of hospitality by helping with our Thanksgiving Eve pie fellowship on Wednesday, November 22. We need 4-5 people to help set up, serve beverages and pie, and clean up. You would still have time to attend worship.

We also need donations of pies!

Advent Calendar Team

Help spread holiday cheer by creating advent calendars from recycled Christmas cards for Pastor Bauman to distribute on his nursing home and shut-in visits. We need volunteers to help organize the materials and volunteers to assemble the calendars. It’s a great project for families, individuals, and groups!

Time Requirement: about one hour per calendar before November 6.

Community Paint-a-Thon

We are partnering with Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine to participate in a Community Paint-a-Thon. Our assigned house is located in Hoffman Estates. This is a great way to be the church together in our local community!

Time Commitment: The main event is Saturday, September 16 from 8:30am-4:00pm. You can come for part or all of the day; please specify your availability on the form below. Lunch is provided! There is also some prep work that would need to be done in advance if you would like to help with that as well. This is an exterior painting project so the rain date is Saturday, September 23.

Phil’s Friends is a Christian organization that ministers to cancer patients by sending cards, care packages, and the love of Jesus to them. We will meet at their facility at 1350 Lake Street in Roselle to create cards and care packages.

This will be a big serving day with multiple projects to choose from.

Schedule for the day:

8:30-9:00am: All volunteers meet at Prince of Peace to check in, meet your team, and get directions
9:00-9:15am: Travel to serving sites
9:15am-11:45am: Serve
11:45am-Noon: Travel back to Prince of Peace for lunch
Noon-1:00pm: Lunch and debrief together 

  • Administration Team – Make preparations before the event and check in volunteers the morning of the event. You could also catch up with a project team after everyone is checked in. Ages 14+ Gifts and Passions: Administration, Helps, Hospitality THIS TEAM IS CURRENTLY FULL
  • Encouragement Team – Provide encouragement by creating crafts for Pastor Bauman to take to nursing homes. We will also create cards to send to prison inmates. Ages 5+ Gifts and Passions: Encouragement, Helps, Mercy, Crafts
  • Family Outreach Team – Update our worship busy bags and create "no bummer summer" activity kits. Ages 5+ Gifts and Passions: Administration, Helps, Hospitality
  • Food Team – Feed our volunteers and also make a meal to take to the local Fire Station. Ages 5+ Gifts and Passions: Baking, Cooking, Helps, Hospitality THIS TEAM IS CURRENTLY FULL
  • Immanuel Lutheran School Team – Partner with Immanuel Lutheran Church & School to complete some school maintenance and organizational projects to prepare for the next school year. Ages 8+ Gifts and Passions: Administration, Encouragement, Helps
  • JOURNEYS Food Bags Team - Create food bags for homeless clients of JOURNEYS Hope Center and local overnight PADS shelter sites. Ages 8+ Gifts and Passions: Encouragement, Helps, Mercy THIS TEAM IS CURRENTLY FULL
  • Parks & Play Team – Share kites, bubbles, and conversation with families at local parks. All ages Gifts and Passions: Encouragement, Helps, Hospitality, Mercy
  • Seeds Community Garden Team – Come work in our Seeds Community garden, which is a joint partnership with Partners for Our Communities. We will build a bean pole structure, fencing, and tend to our crops. Bring gardening/work gloves if you have them. Ages 5+ Gifts and Passions: Encouragement, Gardening, Helps, Mercy

We tried to pick projects that would be a good fit for all ages and abilities. For our littlest servants, the Parks & Play team is a good option for them to be part of the day with their families. We will also have nursery coverage available as a back-up.

Good Friday Prayer Walk Team

Volunteers are needed to set up and take down the Good Friday prayer walk. Stations will be located throughout the building so that people can remember the Holy Week story and God’s love for us. All supplies will be at church.

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours of set up on either Thursday night, April 13, or Friday morning, April 14. One hour of take down on Friday night, April 14, or Saturday morning, April 15. You can help with set up and/or take down.

1.6 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer this year in the United States. Many of these people with cancer find themselves in hopeless situations in hospital rooms and homes across the country. Phil’s Friends brings hope through the distribution of our hand assembled Care Packages to cancer patients and their families, consistent weekly support through Cards of Hope and prayer

VBS Sewing & Crafts Site Director

Do you have a passion for sewing? Do you have the patience to teach it? We’re teaching basic sewing skills in Vacation Bible School this summer to 2nd-6th grade students, and we need your talent to organize projects for the week.

Volunteers should be college students or older. 

Time Commitment: Some pre-VBS planning and then 9:00am-2:30pm during VBS July 11-15.
