Sundays during our 9:00am worship service
Being part of a great story is something we all long for...have you ever finished reading a wonderful book, and wished you could have been part of the story? We have that longing, because deep down we know we are part of the greatest story...God's Story!
We desire for all kids to know God's story, to see how he has worked through HIS story, and where each one of us fits into it.
What is POP Kids?
POP Kids is the name of our Children's Ministry at Prince of Peace. We desire that each child will grow in knowing God, not just knowing about God. Our hope is that they see their story in God’s Big Story, and understand how God has been working all through His-story to bring us back into relationship with Him.
What ages can participate?
POP Kids is for children age 3 through 5th grade. Young children need to be three-years-old by the start of the ministry year.
Parents and POP Kids
It’s been a long held fallacy that you at home are supporting the work we are doing at church with your kids. It’s not true, and it’s certainly not Biblical! We have one hour a week with your kids; you have 167. Who has the biggest influence on their child’s spiritual development?
POP Kids exists to support the work that you are already doing in your homes to raise your kids to be followers of Christ. We know it’s not easy, especially with the world pulling our kids away from God. We are here to support you, to encourage you, and to give you resources to help you on your journey. Our POP Kids small groups give your kids a community where they can share their faith journey with their peers. You need to be involved in the community as well! What better way to have our children fall in love with Jesus than for us to be living testimonies of what that means? One thing is true in spiritual parenting: you can’t give away what you don’t have!
What Happens at POP Kids?
When families enter the building on Sunday morning, they are immediately met by the POP Kids Check-In team. Check-in is super easy and quick, and students are quickly on their way to their age-specific classrooms.
Our youngest students get a big overview of the Bible through lessons that are play-based. The goal for this age group is to get them comfortable coming to POP Kids and making new friends; all while learning that God loves them very much!
Pre-Kindergarten through Second Grade:
These students go through a three year rotation of Bible stories, with a different focus each year: This year we're looking at what it looks like to live as a Disciple of Jesus. Other rotations are "Bible in a Year" and "Life of Jesus". Building relationships with our friends is also a focus with our Large Group/Small Group model of ministry. Kids hear the story together as a big group, and then get a chance to unpack what that looks like in their lives by participating in activities and discussion with their small group.
Third through fifth Grade:
Our oldest students follow the same Large Group/Small Group model as their younger peers, but they follow the "Big Idea" teachings from the weekend Worship services. This gives them the opportunity to have some great discussions at home with parents, as they are both learning the same thing!
To get involved in POP Kids, all you need to do is show up. POP Kids is on Sunday mornings during the 9AM service. We’ll help you find the right class for your kids, and get them settled for the morning’s lesson. You don’t need to be a member of Prince of Peace for your kids to attend POP Kids. Stepping Stones Classes: "My Bible" and "First Communion"
A stepping stone is a marker on a faith journey, a stopping point where we celebrate a new milestone of faith development. Baptism, coming to corporate worship, getting your first Bible, First Communion, Confirmation, graduating from high school are all defining moments in our walk of faith, and we want to celebrate them. Our stepping stone ministry supports you as primary faith mentors for your children, and gives you the tools and resources you need at these specific times of faith development to encourage your children in their faith walk at home. Home is the primary place were faith in Christ is nurtured, strengthened, and expressed. The church’s role is to be a trusted partner alongside parents to help foster this strengthening this process. We provide support, encouragement, resources, and accountability for families to grow in their faith at home.
We are excited to celebrate your child getting their first Bible with the “My Bible” Stepping Stone class. This class specifically designed for third grade kids and their parents gives them an overview of God’s Big Story as told through scripture, and gives parents resources to use at home to continue learning and creating the habit of regularly reading God’s Word. This class is held in September of each year.
Our First Communion workshop is for parents and their fifth grade child. This class helps students understand the gifts God gives through this Holy meal, and prepares them to take communion for the first time. Students will uncover the connection between the first Passover with Moses to the Holy meal we celebrate today through hands on activities, family discussions, and a taste of the seder meal. This workshop is for children in 5th grade and above with their parent.
This workshop will be held February 2, 2019, with the first time at Holy Communion on Sunday, February 3 at the 10:30am service. Registration is now open. Click on the link below to register.
