An update from the Prince of Peace Board of Directors:
Greetings from your 2016-17 Board of Directors! The Board is honored to serve the POP congregation as we all strive to Share Christ’s Peace in the coming year and beyond.
Your Board has been busy since the last communication, and here’s a brief summary of our
recent projects and interactions at Prince of Peace.
Dialogues: 9 complete, and more to come
Board members have gone out individually and in pairs to ask POP PEACE group members and ministry advisory teams how things are going at POP. If your group has not had a board
dialogue, chances are it will soon! To date, over 80 people have been interviewed and these
efforts are continuing. By seeking out small groups, we hope to connect with a diverse cross
section of the congregation. We are thankful to receive your valuable feedback on
communication and engagement effectiveness, PEACE groups, general impressions of
congregational life at POP and areas for improvement. Feedback has been passed on to Pastor Karl and the staff for their review and use.
Upcoming Congregational Meetings: for your calendar
There are two upcoming meetings of which we would like to make you aware.
- A Special Voter’s Meeting is scheduled for February 19 immediately following the 11:00am worship service to decide whether or not to exercise our seminary placement option to extend a call to Vicar Matt to serve as POP’s Pastor of Discipleship.
- Our next Congregational Meeting is May 7 (Informational Meeting on April 30) at which we will update you on church business, vote on new members of the Board of Directors and other information to be released later.
We look forward to seeing you at these important meetings.
Strategic Focus Areas and 2017 Goals
As we turn the calendar from 2016 to 2017, POP is clearly entering a new season of ministry. The strategic imperatives of the past several years have needed to be largely internally focused, reactive and marginally proactive. However, the staff changes and the systems and facilities updates that required our attention and energy are now largely complete. The fruit of working through those challenges is ready to be harvested as POP looks to the future and how to proactively position ourselves for the next many years of ministry to our community. The Board will focus this year on clarifying our congregation’s vision for the future, aligning the church’s ministries with this vision, and assuring that the church’s financial health, congregational unity, and attention to our guest’s visitor worship experience all support our role in sharing Christ’s peace throughout our communities.
Winter Voter’s Meeting: Q and A available on POP website.
Questions received from the congregation before, during, and after the December Voter’s
Meeting have been researched and answered by the Board. Both questions and answers are
available for your review. Additional questions are always welcome and can be sent to the Board online or placed in the mailbox of any current Board member.
Support of Vision Process
The Board has joined Pastor Karl and the POP staff in reading and applying the book “Church Unique” by Will Mancini. Will is the founder of Auxano, the consulting firm POP has retained to help us prayerfully discern the work God has in mind for Prince of Peace and Crosspoint in our communities. The Auxano process will help us identify the work God has specifically prepared and gifted our unique congregation to do and help us align our ministries to do that God-given work. The Board will continue to provide a sounding board for Pastor Karl and his team as they seek to clarify this vision and move to implement these valuable revelations. On February 27-28 the Board and the staff will meet together with Auxano in a workshop to get this process started.
As always, it is our pleasure to serve you and our congregation as we strive to Share Christ’s Peace together.
