Seeds Community Garden

September 10, 2016 update

We continue to harvest green beans, cucumbers, squash, kale, tomatoes, peppers, tomatillas, and herbs. This week we also picked our first carrots and we're still watching 2-3 watermelons as they develop. The garden is just now hitting peak production due to our late planting start, but the weather is cooperating so hopefully we'll get many more weeks of harvests! All these goodies are going home with our POC friends and they are in turn sharing with their friends in the community.

With Fall approaching, we have changed our garden tending ours to Mondays from noon-2:00pm and Fridays from 3:30-5:00pm. If those hours fit your schedule, please come join us in the garden!

August 25, 2016 update

We were able to harvest cucumbers from our garden and turn them into refrigerator pickles! Canning was a new experience for many of the people in our group and we did great with the helpful expertise of Linda Paquette!

The pickles were shared with families who tend our Seeds garden and also those at the main Roots garden.

Be on the lookout for more gardening classes in the future!

August 3, 2016 update

We've gone from planting day

We've gone from planting day

With all of our rain lately, the Prince of Peace/Partners for Our Community Garden is growing marvelously on our church grounds. God is sending sufficient rain, making our job easier - praise Him!

to a bounty of crops in just a few weeks!

to a bounty of crops in just a few weeks!

We're already harvesting lots of lettuce, kale, peppers, herbs, and sprouts from thinning the plants.  Soon it looks like we'll have cucumbers, beans, and other goodies to harvest!  Nothing is better, or better for you, than eating from a garden.  It's been great to send Partners for Our Community (POC) families home with this home-grown treasure.

Stop by on a Monday or Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:00pm or a Friday morning from 9:00-11:00am to check out what’s happening in the garden.  All are welcome!

Hope this update helps you get excited about the impact this garden is having on the families who come to work in it.  We're growing friendships as we grow plants, and all to the glory of God!
