Sharing Christ's Peace

In the last Peace Offering, I reflected on Prince of Peace’s rich 45-year history so far and how I am so honored to be a part of what God is doing to share Christ’s peace in Palatine, Lakewood, and beyond. This time, I want to talk a little more about “Sharing Christ’s Peace,” our 2016-2017 ministry year theme for Prince of Peace and Crosspoint.

Back in August, we kicked off this ministry year with a fun event called “M-O,” short for Ministry Orientation. Over 100 leaders across multiple ministry areas spent Saturday morning together. Why?

We came together to look OUT: to share gifts with our Palatine community through assembling appreciation gifts for local teachers! (Sharing)

We came together to look UP: to worship in Jesus’ name, to receive His words, and pray that His will be done through us! (Christ’s)

We came together to look IN: to get equipped and informed, to encourage and enjoy, care for and connect with one another as leaders! (Peace)

What’s “Sharing Christ’s Peace” all about? It’s a very simple way to remember the big story of our salvation and our big mission as the church in the world.

It goes like this: God sent Jesus to restore peace to our broken lives and our broken world. We, as followers of Jesus, are now called to share Christ’s peace with everyone, everywhere, every day until Christ returns or calls us home.

Together, those three simple words tell a story.

Separately, they show us the three-dimensional life of a Christ follower:

CHRIST’S — We are not our own; we were bought with a price. All we have and are is Christ’s. Lord Jesus, I’m Yours!

PEACE — We find wholeness in community; we can’t do life alone. Life together can be tough, though. Lord Jesus, make me a peacemaker!

SHARED — One of the earliest lessons we learn in life, and we keep on learning it. We all have something to share. Lord Jesus, teach me to share! If we were simply to understand and apply these three things in a continual way in our lives, I’m convinced it would be nothing less than world-changing!

If we were simply to understand and apply these three things in a continual way in our lives, I’m convinced it would be nothing less than world-changing!

I pray this issue of the Peace Offering will show you some of the dynamic ways Prince of Peace and Crosspoint are already sharing Christ’s peace in Palatine, Lakewood, and beyond!

I pray that you will be encouraged and inspired to join in sharing Christ’s peace!

I pray you’ll be moved to make and share your own stories!

I pray you’ll be excited about the future God has mapped out for us together!

Peace in Christ,
