8/28-29 – Dead People Go to a Better Place?
9/4-5 – Forgiving Means Forgetting?

The LWML here at Prince of Peace will be collecting mites at the Welcome Center this weekend, July 31-August 1. If you do not have a mite box you are welcome to donate now and/or pick up a mite box to use during the next month. Next collection will be the first weekend in September.

Palatine Township 2010 Apple Tree Campaign
POP Mission Partner, Palatine Township, is kicking off its annual back to school program, the "Apple Tree Campaign," to collect and distribute new backpacks and school supplies to economically disadvantaged children in our community and you can help. Check out the flyer at the Welcome Center for a list of needed supplies. Donations should be placed in the bin by the Welcome Center no later than this Sunday, August 1. Please consider donating these needed supplies so that these students can begin the new school year prepared and ready to learn! What a wonderful way to serve under-resourced children right here in our own community!

Palatine Street Fest Is Coming!
Once again POP will be reaching out to the community at Palatine Street Fest on August 28-29 and we need your help. Come join in this neighborhood celebration as we man games and a moonwalk for the kids and give out info about the exciting things that are happening at POP! A variety of time slots are available for individuals, families – even P.E.A.C.E. groups. Check out the Welcome Center for more info and sign up today! Questions? Need more info? Contact Brent Anderson.

Grace Lutheran School, Chicago
Our mission partner, Grace has experienced flooding in their gym and offices last week. Clean up efforts are underway but they need some supplies to get it done. Ron and Becky Reeve will be collecting Walmart/Home Depot/Menard gift cards and/or string mops, brooms, dust mops for Grace. Contact them to donate items/gift cards.

Volunteers Needed for the "Water Bottle Project" Outreach Event
Thursday, August 12, POP will be participating in the third annual NID "Water Bottle Project" Outreach Event. For the past two summers, nearly a dozen congregations in the Northwest Suburbs joined forces to "deluge" our respective Metra (or L) stations with volunteers passing out free water bottles, featuring a custom-designed label with a Gospel message and individualized "tags" for each congregation. If you'd like to be a part of POP's effort at the Palatine Train Station, please sign up at the Welcome Center or contact Steve Koelsch or Pastor John Scott for more information.

You Can Serve by Serving!
Here's your chance to serve by serving—coffee, that is, and tea and cookies, as well! Coffee servers are greatly needed following the 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00am services beginning in September. If you've partaken of any of these goodies, you know what a blessing they are to members, guests and visitors alike. Please consider volunteering so that we may continue this wonderful time of fellowship and hospitality. Sign-up today at the Welcome Center. Need more info? Contact Jan Van Sant or Andrea Barber.

Prince of Peace's Core Values

Personal Evangelism — We believe sharing our faith is most effective and best received when it happens in the context of personal relationships.
Loving Relationships — We believe in demonstrating our love in commitment and action.
Relevant Teaching — We believe God's Word is intended to be understood and applied to daily life.
Intentional Discipleship — We believe spiritual growth can and should be actively pursued by every believer.
Total Involvement — We believe the church is most effective when all members serve using their spiritual gifts.
Outward Focus — We believe the needs of people outside the church should take priority over the preferences of those inside the church.
